Groundwork Concrete Services
Solid, level concrete bases, footings and paths, laid properly
Everything in a garden is only as good as what it stands on. A shed on an uneven base twists and leaks, a garden room needs a slab that will not crack, and a path laid on soft ground sinks within a couple of winters. Branching Out carries out groundwork and concrete work for homes and businesses across Denbighshire, Flintshire, Conwy and Cheshire: concrete bases for sheds, summer houses, garden rooms and hot tubs, footings for walls and extensions, patio slabs and pathways.
We do the whole job. The area is marked out and excavated, a hardcore sub-base is laid and compacted, timber shuttering or a block edge is set level, and the concrete is poured, tamped and finished. Where the ground or the load calls for it, we add a damp-proof membrane and steel mesh reinforcement. The result is a flat, square base at the right height, ready for whatever is going on top.
Because we also clear sites, fell trees, grind stumps and landscape, we can take a corner of the garden from overgrown to ready-to-build, and tidy up around the new base afterwards.

Simple, transparent and with no pressure at any stage.
Site visit
We look at the ground, the access and what the base is for, check levels and drainage, and agree the size and height with you.
Fixed quote
You receive a written price covering excavation, sub-base, concrete and removal of spoil, with no hidden extras.
Dig, shutter and pour
We excavate, compact the sub-base, set the shuttering or block edge level and square, then pour, tamp and finish the concrete.
Cure and hand over
The shuttering is struck once the concrete has gone off, the area is tidied and we tell you when the base is ready to build on.
Why choose Branching Out for groundwork and concrete
A base is the part of the job nobody sees once the shed is up, which is exactly why it has to be done right.
Level and square
Bases set out accurately and finished flat, so sheds, garden rooms and slabs sit properly without packing or twisting.
Built from the ground up
Excavated to depth on a compacted hardcore sub-base, with membrane and mesh where the job needs them. No concrete poured straight onto topsoil.
Clearance to finish
We clear the site, remove the spoil and make good around the base, and can follow on with paving, fencing or turf.
Groundwork and concrete across Denbighshire, Flintshire, Conwy and Cheshire
We lay concrete bases and carry out groundwork throughout Denbighshire, Flintshire, Conwy and Cheshire, from back gardens in Prestatyn, Rhyl, Kinmel Bay, Abergele and Colwyn Bay to farms, smallholdings and holiday parks around Denbigh, Ruthin, Mold and Holywell.
Ground conditions vary a great deal across the area: sand near the coast, heavy clay in parts of the Vale of Clwyd and around Mold, and made-up ground on many newer estates. We adjust the depth of the dig and the sub-base to suit, and where a garden slopes, as so many do in Dyserth, Meliden and along the Conwy coast, we can cut the base in and retain the bank so it stays put.

For most garden sheds, summer houses and greenhouses, around 100 mm (4 inches) of concrete on a compacted hardcore sub-base is right. Heavier loads such as garden rooms, hot tubs, workshops and vehicles need a thicker slab, often with steel mesh. We will recommend the right specification when we see the site.
You can usually walk on new concrete after a day or two and build a shed on it after about a week. Concrete carries on gaining strength for around a month, so heavy loads such as a filled hot tub are best left until then.
Usually, yes. We can mix on site or barrow ready-mixed concrete through, and for longer runs it can be pumped. We check access at the site visit and price accordingly.
A concrete base on its own does not normally need planning permission. The building that goes on it sometimes does, depending on its size, height and position, and paving over a front garden has its own drainage rules. We will point you in the right direction if we think permission might be needed.
