Get rid of that stump for good and take back the space

A tree stump left after felling is more than an eyesore. It is a trip hazard, it gets in the way of the mower, it sprouts suckers every summer, it attracts honey fungus and it makes the spot useless for anything else. Branching Out grinds out stumps of every size across Denbighshire, Flintshire, Conwy and Cheshire, usually in a couple of hours, leaving you with clean soil you can use straight away.

Our stump grinder is compact enough to go through a standard garden gate or down a side passage, yet powerful enough to deal with large stumps. The cutting wheel chews the stump and the main surface roots into fine chippings well below ground level. We can leave the chippings to settle as backfill, or remove them and fill the hole with topsoil so you can lay turf, plant, pave or set a fence post on the spot.

We remove stumps we have felled ourselves and stumps left by others, including old stumps that have been in the ground for years.

How It Works

From first call to finished job

Simple, transparent and with no pressure at any stage.

1

Send a photo

For most stumps we can quote from a photo, the diameter at ground level and a note about access. WhatsApp is ideal.

2

Fixed quote

You get a fixed price per stump, with a discount for several stumps on the same visit. No obligation.

3

Grind

We check for cables and pipes, set up screens to contain chippings, and grind the stump and main roots out below ground level.

4

Finish

Chippings are left as backfill or removed and the hole is filled with soil, raked level and ready for whatever you have planned.

Why Branching Out

Why choose Branching Out for stump removal

Grinding is quicker, cheaper and far less disruptive than digging a stump out, and it avoids the chemicals and years of waiting that come with stump killers.

Fast and clean

Most domestic stumps are gone in under an hour, with no excavator, no crater and no damage to the surrounding lawn.

Fits through the gate

Our compact grinder gets into back gardens, side passages and tight corners that larger machines cannot reach.

Ready to use

Because we grind well below ground level, you can turf, plant, pave or fence over the spot straight away.

Questions & Answers

Stump Grinding FAQs

The questions we are asked most about stump grinding.

Normally 20 to 30 cm below ground level, which is plenty for turf, planting and most paving. If you are putting in a fence post or a foundation on the exact spot, tell us and we can grind deeper.

No. Grinding removes the stump and the top of the root system, so the tree cannot regenerate. Some species, like sycamore and poplar, may send up a few suckers from remaining roots for a season, but these are easily pulled and soon stop.

Just make sure we can get to the stump and let us know if there are any cables, pipes, drains or irrigation lines nearby. If the stump is still tall, that is fine, we will cut it down before grinding.

That is up to you. Stump chippings mixed with soil make a reasonable backfill that settles over a few months, or we can take them away and fill the hole with topsoil so the area is ready to turf or plant immediately.
